Boys Basketball: Buckeyes Win Sectional
< < Back toThe River Valley Raiders are a familiar opponent to Nelsonville-York after they played and beat them twice during the regular season. Some say it’s hard to beat a team three times, but that was not the case for the Buckeyes. They won the Sectional Tournament with ease, 51-32.
River Valley gave N-Y a bit of a scare, leading 15-12 at the end of the first, but the Buckeyes didn’t let that last long. They came out strong in the second quarter, shutting down the Raiders offense and went on a 15-2 run. River Valley fought hard to come back, but it wasn’t enough against the Buckeyes stifling defense. The Raiders scored 15 points in the first quarter and only managed to score 17 points the rest of the game.
It wasn’t just defense that led the Buckeyes, but also their ability to shoot over 50% from the field. Seniors, Daniel Kline and Kyle Moore led N-Y, both scoring in the double figures. Kline had 17 points and four rebounds. Moore added another 10 points and six rebounds for the Buckeyes. Also both seniors, standing tall at 6’4”, combined for a total of five blocks on the night. For the Raiders, the points were spread pretty evenly throughout, but Austin Lewis led the way with seven points and 3 steals.
“They’re seniors playing in their 3rd sectional championship game. The both of them came to play tonight,” Coach Kline on seniors Kline and Moore. “Kyle did a great job in the post and influencing shots and he also had a lot of blocks. Daniel did a great job in transition, running the floor and also defensively.”
For the Raiders, their season has reached an end, but as for the Buckeyes, they will take on 4-seeded Lucasville Valley, Monday, March 5th, at the Convocation Center.
