Athens Family Physician Receives Distinguished Service Award
< < Back to ?p=4101An Athens family physician and faculty member at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine has received the 2012 distinguished service award from the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
Dr. Jay Shubrook Jr. was awarded the Young Physician of the Year award for his commitment to leadership and the education of future physicians.
Shubrook has conducted extensive research about diabetes.
"Diabetes is a common disease that affects all medical practices, and for many in family medicine, it's a large part of their practice. Because it's such an important issue, I've devoted most of my research and clinical time to it. At this point, I actually work in a diabetes center and all of my clinical work is diabetes," he said.
Shubrook is also working with a new study called Program ACTIVE. The program is designed to test whether depression treatment and aerobic exercise improve depression, diabetes and cardiovascular risk outcomes in adutls with type two diabetes.
"[We're] looking at the ways we can improve the life and disease control for people with type two diabetes and depression. Diabetes is very common and depression makes it very hard to manage type two diabetes," he said.
Shubrook was a guest on WOUB's Newswatch on March 28, 2012.
