Gov. John Kasich says he wants construction of a Holocaust memorial at the Statehouse to be completed by 2013.

The governor said Tuesday at an annual Holocaust commemoration at the Statehouse that construction should be finished by the next commemoration. He said he hopes to host a dedication ceremony in 2014.

Kasich's comments come just weeks after he signed a bill to create the memorial. The legislation appoints the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board to work with the Ohio Arts Council to determine the memorial's location and design.

The head of the agency that oversees the Capitol grounds has questioned if such a memorial would fit in at the Civil War-era Statehouse.

The state is funding preliminary site work, with private money paying for the rest.
