Hocking College Union Files Unfair Labor Practice Charges
< < Back to hocking-college-union-files-unfair-labor-practice-chargesHocking College's support staff union says they are fighting to get their rights back.
The union filed two unfair labor practice charges with the State Employment Relations Board (SERB).
Will Alder, a member of the Hocking College Education Association, says the first charge filed regards the implementation of the contract.
Alder says the second one is due to a violation of direct dealing.
"The second one is concerning a letter that was sent out by the director of human resources, John Sanders, and it's a violation of direct dealing. That letter was sent out directly to all of our union members and he's on the negotiating team," said Alder.
Hocking College spokeswoman Laura Alloway says the college denies the allegations and is working directly with the SERB to address the charges.
In a statement, Alloway said, "The College bargained in good faith with the union for nearly a year and the parties, with the assistance of a federal mediator, were able to agree on virtually all issues. Additional negotiations became futile, however, when the union confirmed that it would never accept the College's best compromise offer on the few remaining issues."
A spokesman from the SERB said the review process could take between three and five months but Alder says differently.
"I was told by our labor relations consultant that it could take much longer than that," said Alder.
