Drug-Related Stops Up Over Memorial Day Weekend
< < Back to ?p=5118The State Highway Patrol says 11 people died in traffic crashes around Ohio during the extended Memorial Day weekend.
That's a slightly lower number than in recent years. There were 14 traffic fatalities during the comparable period in 2011 and 13 deaths over the holiday weekend in 2010.
Troopers say drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol were involved in at least three of the fatal crashes between Friday and Monday.
The patrol says its drug-related arrests and stops for aggressive driving increased significantly in comparison with last year. Troopers made more than 220 drug-related arrests, an increase of about 15 percent.
Stops for aggressive driving were up more than 40 percent with a total of more than 2,800 during the long weekend.
