The chips were down for the Lady Bobcats seemingly all last season.  Now, they could redeem themselves on a grand stage.

The Duel in the Desert tournament in Las Vegas highlights the 2011-2012 Ohio Women’s Basketball schedule, where they will face three perennial powerhouses on three consecutive days.

They start with in-state foe Xavier on December 18 before dancing with the Orange of Syracuse on the 19 and rounding out with the Oklahoma Sooners on the 20th.

Xavier and Oklahoma both competed in last year’s NCAA Championship Tournament.  The number two seed Musketeers fell in the quarterfinals, while six seed Oklahoma’s season ended in the Elite Eight.   Syracuse was topped in the fourth round of the WNIT.

The last time the Lady Bobcats saw any of these opponents was 2009.  Ohio entertained Syracuse in the Convocation Center to the tune of a 70-54 defeat at the hands of the Orange.

Other non-conference opponents that highlight the schedule are home contests against Marshall (Nov. 19) and George Mason (Dec. 29)

Ohio went 9-22 last season, head coach Semeka Randall’s third year at the helm, falling in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament to second-seeded Bowling Green.

The Lady Bobcats conference play opens with their first 2012 contest, a home date against Buffalo on January 4.

The season opener will be an exhibition contest in Athens against Ohio Valley on November 1.
