Former Fiscal Officer Sentenced To Prison Time
< < Back to former-fiscal-officer-sentenced-prison-timeA former fiscal officer for the village of Rutland in Meigs County is headed to prison.
Laura Curtis was sentenced this week to three years in prison for stealing $50,000 from the village.
Curtis pleaded guilty earlier this year to theft in office.
According to court documents, the court determined that Curtis was remorseful for her actions and that this has caused hardship on her family, but said she took advantage of her position.
The court determined that there is a need to deter people from doing this in the future and did not agree with her attorney's recommendation for community control.
Curtis could be considered for judicial release at some point and may be eligible for good time credit, although that is not guaranteed.
Curtis must pay back $50,000 to the village of Rutland. She will serve her sentence in Marysville, Ohio.
She may also be subject to post-release supervision for three years after being released from prison.
