Bobcats To Host Top Talent In Baymont Invitational
< < Back to bobcats-host-top-talent-baymont-invitationalThis weekend at the Convocation Center the Ohio Bobcats Volleyball team is hosting the Baymont Invitational as they welcome in some of the nation’s top teams.
The ‘Cats look to bounce back from last week’s Flyer Classic where they started their season 0-3 by losing to (current rankings) No. 13 Pepperdine, No. 19 Illinois, and No. 11 Dayton. Ohio Head Coach Ryan Theis wasn’t thrilled about starting the season winless, but he likes the high level of competition that the team was able to experience.
“I like playing good competition the first weekend because it tells us what’s broken,” said Theis. “Each match we got better and better and we played our best match at the end and hopefully that carries into this week.”
The Bobcats will need to play their best volleyball as they start the tournament Friday night at 7:00 against No. 10 Kentucky. This weekend’s matches have a lot on the line as Ohio Defensive Specialist Mollie Geske is looking ahead at the big picture.
“This weekend is important because we’re playing top teams and if we get a win we have a better chance at getting to the NCAA tournament at the end of the year,” said Geske. “It prepares us for the MAC, too.”
The second game for Ohio is at 3:00 Saturday afternoon when the Bobcats take on Western Carolina. Sunday morning at 11:00 is the third and final match for the ‘Cats as they take on No. 17 Oregon.
As the Bobcats look for their first win of the season, they still have many aspects of the game to improve on, but Coach Theis isn’t giving away any hints for this weekend’s opposition.
“There’s a lot of small things that can add up and (we can) get better on,” said Theis. “In terms of specifics, I’m going to leave that to the other teams to figure out.”
