OU Trustees Establish School Intervention Research Center
< < Back to ou-trustees-establish-school-intervention-research-centerA pair of Ohio University researchers just got a boost in support as the university's board of trustees approved plans Friday to establish a center focusing on their specific area of study.
The trustees approved the establishment of the Center for Intervention Research in Schools (CIRS).
Steve Evans and Julie Owens study different ways teachers can help students with behavioral disorders, such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Evans, co-director of the center, says the work he and his colleagues will do in the center will have a lasting effect on children with behavioral problems.
"The work we do in the center focuses on the development and evaluation and intervention for children and adolescents with ADHD and related problems in school," said Evans.
Evans says making an official center enhance all that work.
According to an Ohio of Research Communications news release, the center will help secure more funding, attract graduate students and staff and recruit study participants.
Evans brought in two new faculty members with the intention of broadening the combined expertise of the center.
"We here, believe that the way to do things that really make a difference is to do things as collaboratively as possible," said Evans.
Owens will serve as CIRS co-director.
The center's researchers will also focus on emotional, behavioral and academic difficulties.
