The Federal Hocking Lancers stepped up in the second half of a TVC-Hocking division matchup with the Southern Tornadoes, picking up a 14-7 victory at Roger Lee Adams Memorial Football Field.

 

Neither team was able to find much success on offense early in the game. Southern forced a fumble on the Lancers’ six yard line, but failed to reach the end zone with the drive resulting in a turnover on downs. 

 

The first completion of the game came with four minutes to go in the first quarter when quarterback Tristen Wolfe threw it to Trenton Deem for an impressive sideline-hugging grab. At the end of the first quarter, both teams were tied 0-0.

 

The Lancers were able to block a Southern punt early in the second quarter but did not capitalize on the opportunity, resulting in a turnover on downs.

 

The Tornadoes were finally able to move the chains for the first time with under two minutes to go in the half, but Wolfe threw his only pick of the night to end the Southern drive before halftime.

 

Both teams came out of their locker rooms determined to fix their offensive difficulties. The Lancers improved through the air when Jackson connected with Romie Casey for a touchdown to put Federal Hocking on the board, 7-0.

 

The Tornadoes responded right after with a kickoff return for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.

 

Later in the third quarter, Federal Hocking solidified their victory with another touchdown to put the final score to 14-7.

 

Jackson finished the game completing 14-of-27 passes for 201 yards, while Wolfe went 2-for-9 with one interception for 33 yards. Peyton Seel led the Lancers in rushing with 27 yards off nine carries. Tyler Barton earned 59 yards on 19 attempts on the ground for the Tornadoes.

 

Federal Hocking improves to (3-1, 2-0 TVC-H), while Southern falls to (1-3, 1-2 TVC-H).

 

The Lancers’ next opponent will be the Golden Eagles of Belpre, while the Tornadoes prepare to challenge Symmes Valley next week.
