Week 6 brings another MVL rivalry to the forefront.

After a promising 2-1 start to the season, Crooksville has ran into the gauntlet of the MVL schedule.  The Ceramics, now 2-3 (0-3 MVL), have fallen to traditional powers Sheridan and Tri-Valley, as well as a tough one-point loss to the Philo Electrics.  Unfortunately for Crooksville, their schedule does not get any easier; in Week 6, they will have to bring all they’ve got against the Maysville Panthers.

The 4-1 (3-1) Panthers have been surging ever since a week two loss to undefeated Tri-Valley, but has gone on to win three consecutive games.  The road has not been easy for the Panthers, as three of their four wins have come by a combined nine points.  Head Coach Craig Clarke likes the maturity his team has shown in clutch situations.

“It starts with our senior leadership,” Clarke said.  “We’ve been down in the fourth quarter, but played to the end.  When you do that, you can make big plays to win you the game.”

Crooksville’s offense runs through quarterback Lake Channel.  In Week 4, Channel had a huge performance.  He racked up 189 total yards and two touchdowns, but last week Tri-Valley held the three-year starter to a total of 18 yards in a Ceramic loss.  Crooksville will look to get Channel out into space where he thrives.

If Maysville can take down the Ceramics, it will mark their fifth win of the season, matching their win total from last season.  Clarke says the fast start has gotten the attention from everyone in the community.

“I see a group of kids where the whole community is backing them,” he said.  “This town has been hungry for a winner around here.”
