Patterson Earns Player of the Week Honors
< < Back to patterson-earns-player-week-honorsOhio’s Daz’ Patterson has been named MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week. It is the first time Patterson has won the award.
Patterson had 126 kick-return yards in Saturday’s 38-24 win over Buffalo, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown—his first career score.
The touchdown came with 3:17 left in the first quarter when Ohio trailed 14-0, sparking a run of 24 unanswered points for the Bobcats that lasted until the middle of the third quarter.
“It was a pretty big boost for our football team,” said Patterson after the game. “ I just followed my blocking and it hit perfect.”
Patterson’s 100-yard return ties a school record for longest kick return, previously held by former Bobcat running back Donte Harden. It is also the first kick-return touchdown for Ohio since Chris Garrett scored on a kickoff in 2009.
Patterson is a freshman from Plant City, Fla., where he earned Second Team All-State honors as a junior and senior. He graduated with honors and a 4.87 cumulative GPA, earning the school’s Scholar Athlete Award.
