As the temperatures across Southeastern Ohio drops, the significance of every game rises. Player of the year semi-finalist Wade Jarrell came to play, leading the Gallia Academy Blue Devils offense however, over and around the struggling Warren defense en route to a commanding 52-21 victory.
The junior signal caller had one of his finest performances to date, tossing two touchdowns in the first half alone. The Blue Devil quarterback also ran wild throughout the game, punching in a 16-yard touchdown on the ground.
Jarrell’s ground game was a nice complement to running back Ty Warnimont, who accounted for 131 yards rushing on four carries with one touchdown. The junior’s one score was one to remember — a 59 yard sprint to the house two minutes into the game.
Though Warren seemed to be out-classed, they continued to show a tremendous amount of passion as the rout wore on. Senior quarterback Kyle Leffingwell led the Warriors offense, going 17-of-29 for 174 yards. His one scoring strike went to junior Jake Scott after a gritty two minute drill to end the first half.
Unfortunately for the home side, the Warren offensive line offered little protection to their quarterback. Leffingwell was chased around all night long by senior defensive end Austin Gragg and the rest of the aggressive Gallia Academy defense. Gragg’s bone-crunching sack early in the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game.
The seven members of the spirited Gallia Academy student section cheered their team on as they improved to 6-2 on the year and 3-0 in SEOAL play. The Blue Devils will be traveling to Logan to take on a struggling Chieftan Squad.
With tonight’s loss, Warren moves to 2-6 on the year. The Warriors will be looking for their first SEOAL victory when they travel to Portsmouth next week.
