Athens And OU Police To Seek Comment
< < Back to athens-and-ou-police-seek-commentAthens and Ohio University are putting together a new police group.
Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle said the group is a "way to have constant community input on issues that involve both" his department and OU's police department.
Mayor Paul Wiehl said they're still in the organizational stage right now.
"The charter is being put together right now," he said. "The rollout is coming soon."
The group will be called the Joint Police Service Council.
Chief Pyle said it "will include up to 19 representatives of the various sub-communities both on and off campus that make up the greater 'Athens' community."
Pyle said he and OU's police chief "feel we will benefit from this type of direct community input to our departments in order to make more informed decisions." Decisions about the city's noise ordinance, for example.
