Crunch Time Begins For Big Reds
< < Back to crunch-time-begins-big-reds
After dropping their last matchup to Wilson two weeks ago, the Parkersburg Big Reds have had two weeks to prepare for a gauntlet to wrap up their season. Sitting at No. 20 in the West Virginia Class AAA rankings, the Big Reds must win their final two games for a shot at the playoffs.
Their trek starts this Friday night with a battle against a visiting South Charleston squad, who is coming off an upset loss to Ripley.
Parkersburg was able to get their offense going against Wilson, mainly behind senior tailback Adam Lindamood’s 166 yards, but couldn’t slow up the Flying Eagles. The Big Reds defense allowed 396 yards of total offense, 304 of which came on the ground.
Parkersburg will see more of a pass attack from the Black Eagles this week. South Charleston has thrown for 2,314 yards this season. The Big Reds defense has the challenge of both stopping the pass and getting to freshman quarterback Kentre Grier forcing him to make mistakes.
Parkersburg can counteract South Charleston’s aerial attack with one of their own. Junior quarterback Aaron Roberts has thrown for 1,084 yards and eight touchdown passes so far this season and has a cast of strong receivers including Dan Fox and Kwante Johnson.
With an outside shot of making the playoffs, Parkersburg will need to be flying high coming off their bye week to at least make it past South Charleston. If they can get the win Friday night, they will at least have momentum heading into their season finale against fifth ranked George Washington.
