Despite Parkersburg South’s playoff hopes being dashed with a loss last week to Wheeling Park, they came out and got a victory for their seniors on Senior Night. The Patriots showed up strong as they knocked off John Marshall 56-19.
The seniors of P. South ran up and down the field as Braxton Johnson, Jordan Quiocho, and Logan Cox combined for four touchdowns and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. Johnson’s touchdown got Parkersburg South on the board in the first half with a 55-yard scamper, while Quiocho’s touchdowns were from 14 and 28 yards.
Quiocho finished with nine carries for 127 yards and those two touchdowns. Cox had an equal amount of carries for 137 yards and a touchdown.
Parkersburg South was not only strong on offense but held the John Marshall rushing game in check throughout the first half. John Marshall’s rushing attack broke out of its bind in the second half as they finished the night with 43 rushes for 206 yards. John Marshall’s Jeremiah Fromhart had a rough night at quarterback as he was sacked three times during the first half.
Evan Magers of John Marshall was doing all he could on offense to try and spoil P. South’s night. On the first play after a Tyler Bolen interception, Fromhart found Magers on a pass over the middle which Magers took 69 yards for a touchdown, giving John Marshall the early 7-0 lead. That pass totaled for half of Fromhart’s yards on the night as he finished 11-of-23 for 149 yards. Later, Magers caught a pass that he fumbled into the end zone, which P. South recovered for a touchback.
Parkersburg South finished the year at 6-4 while John Marshall saw their final mark drop to 2-8.
