Perry Co. Sheriff Holds On To Post

Unofficial results from Perry County show incumbent Sheriff William Randall Barker defeated Amy Nash English. 

Barker received 52 percent, or 7,546 votes, while English received 48 percent, or 6,893 votes.

In the county commissioner races, Democrat Ed Keister won with 54 percent (7,587 votes) against his Republican opponent Thad Cooperrider’s 46 percent (6,374 votes).

Democrat Jim O’Brien had 7,251 votes (52 percent) to win the race against his Republican opponent Lloyd Harley’s 6,778 (48 percent).

Democrat Tim Green narrowly lost to David Freriks 7,012 to 6,803.

Democrat Timothy Wollenberg took county clerk of courts in a landslide with 9,032 votes to Independent Penny Wilkins’s 4,418.

Jackie Hoover won the county recorder race by a large margin with 8,454 votes to her opponent Ashly Heavener’s 5,645.

Ron Baker lost the county treasurer race to Melissa Leasa Walters 8,149 to 5,913.

The New Lexington City School District renewal tax levy for three mills through five years passed 2,350 to 1,886.

The issue has been renewed twice in the past and allows the school district to maintain general operating expenses of $70,000 per year.

The Village of New Lexington’s additional tax levy for one mill that would have lasted five years did not pass with 735 votes for the levy and 821 votes against the levy.

The tax levy aimed to benefit parks and recreation in New Lexington.
