OU School of Music Presents “Music of Argentina and The Andes”
< < Back to ou-school-music-presents-music-argentina-and-andesThe Ohio University School of Music will host a visting artist recital entitled “Music of Argentina and the Andes,” Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. in the Glidden Hall Recital Hall.
Visiting artists Pablo Salcedo and Oscar Puebla have traveled from Mendoza, Argentina, where they are faculty at Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. The duo will be in residence at Ohio University for a week of performing and teaching.
The recital will feature a unique mix of Andean music, original works and traditional music of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
Pablo Salcedo is a performer on traditional instruments of the Andes, including a wide assortment of traditional and modern instruments: the markama chromatic quena, moseño, siku, ocarina, anatas, shakuhachi, bansuri, traverse flute and saxophone. He returns to Ohio University for a second visit, following a successful residency a decade ago.
Salcedo is known across Argentina as a soloist and member of the ensemble Markama, and is the organizer of the World Flutes Festival in Mendoza. The festival annually welcomes an international lineup of flutists and other musicians. Oscar Puebla has traveled the world as a classical and commercial guitarist.
A pre-recital lecture, and reception afterward, will be presented compliments of the Athens Music Club.
