< < Back to ?p=8045The state of Ohio hopes the growth of the solar energy industy will mean a brighter economic future for the manufacturing industry.
It has created the free online Solar Supply Chain Database to help companies involved in solar energy manufacturing.
The database features a geocoded interactive map that allows visitors to see what companies are involved in the solar energy industry.
Chad Smith, the Deputy Chief of the Office of Energy at the Ohio Development Service Agency, said as a leader of advanced manufacturing techniques state is in a perfect position to take advantage of the growing renewable energy sector.
"Historically Ohio has a great industrial heritage," Smith said, "We have a lot of strengths in those areas. So if we look at something like the solar industry, everything that goes into that, all the component manufacturing, leverages Ohio's historic strengths in manufacturing."
The Ohio Development Service Agency partnered with the the Ohio University Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs to create the online database.
The Voinovich School created similiar databases for other industries and companies in Ohio.
"Ohio University is helping the state develop a thorough understanding of its competitive advantages in the energy manufacturing space," Scott Miller, the director of energy and environmental programs at the Voinovich school, said in a press release on Thursday.
