< < Back to swimming-and-diving-ohio-wins-patriot-invitationalThe Ohio swimming and diving team finished off a dominating performance Saturday night and came home from Fairfax, Va. with the Patriot Invitational under their belts.
Laurin Williams started off the night with a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle, winning by over two seconds. Anastasia Bocharnikova finished the 200-yard backstroke in second place, while Rachel Stearns finished the event in eighth.
Katey Brooks and Lauren Funk finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle. Brooks had a time of 51.85 and Funk finished in 52 seconds flat. Haley Clark also finished in ninth place in the event, snagging nine points for the Bobcats.
The 200-yard breaststroke wasn’t as kind to Ohio, but Megan Davis put forth a strong effort to finish in fourth place. That was good for 15 points. The 200-yard butterfly saw two Bobcats in the top 10, as Michelle Gasior and Addison Ferguson finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
Ohio notched their first victory of the season in Virginia and it was certainly a big one. The Bobcats are hoping the championship is a sign of things to come for the swimming and diving team.
Ohio’s next event is the Zippy Invitational in Akron, Oh. and that will begin Nov. 30.
