Memorial Service For Ohio University Student Tonight
< < Back to memorial-service-ohio-university-student-tonightA memorial service for the late Ohio University Student Gloria Dawes will be held tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Galbreath Chapel on O.U.'s Athens campus.
All family and friends are welcome.
The senior was on her way to a family gathering Labor Day weekend when she was killed on Interstate 77 in Guernsey County.
Dawes was from Adena, Ohio and was a special education major.
Investigators say she crossed the median and hit another car.
Ohio University alumnus Matt Moore organized the memorial with permission from Dawes' parents.
Moore is a family friend and has known Gloria since he was in elementary school.
"I just want people who knew Gloria to have an opportunity to have closure," Moore said. "Her parents and sister will be there, so people who haven't met them can do so. They can also spend some time praying and talking to other people who knew her and miss her."
Moore added that he will always remember Gloria as "someone who was always smiling. She had an adventurous heart."
Memorial contributions can be made to the Gloria Dawes Dance Scholarship Fund c/o Oglebay Institute Dance Department, 1330 National Road, Wheeling, W.Va. 26003.
