The Buckeyes dictated the fast paced first half, putting full court pressure on the Lancers for the first 16 minutes. Nelsonville-York would take a resounding 55-18 lead into the half.

 

At this point in the game, the statistics do great justice in telling how much better the Buckeyes played. The swarming Buckeyes defense caused 16 first half turnovers while the Lancers only attempted 22 field goals in the half.  The Buckeyes shot 19-of-24 in the first half to the tune of 79 percent from the field.

 

The second half would see Federal Hocking coach Howie Caldwell’s squad play noticeably better defense. They would cause 11 turnovers, and allow 31 points. The Fed Hock guards also did their best to feed big man Max Carney, who led the Lancers with 19 points and six rebounds despite battling the flu. He was one of three Lancers who finished in double figures, with Terrance Mayle and Alfy Nichols finishing with 10 points each.

 

Ultimately the quick pace benefited the Buckeyes, who were led by Clint Handa with 20 points, Marc Carter 19 points, and Joey Young with 12 points and 7 rebounds. They shot lights out from behind the arc all night, going 9-for-12 as a team.

 

As good as the Buckeyes looked at times, there was a great deal of sloppy play on both sides. The teams combined for 42 turnovers, and shot a combined 31-of-61 from the free throw line. 

 

Nelsonville-York travels to Amanda for their next game on December 4 while Federal Hocking looks to get back on the right track when they travel to Miller.
