Wahama Wins State Title
< < Back to wahama-wins-state-titleThe Wahama White Falcons won their first state title in school history with a thrilling 43-42 overtime victory over the Madonna Blue Dons Saturday night at Wheeling Island Stadium. The White Falcons clinched the West Virginia Class A Championship off of a successful two point conversion run by Trenton Gibbs after a touchdown run by Zach Wamsley.
The run game dominated for both teams as Wamsley and Kane Roush each scored three touchdowns on the ground to account for all of Wahama's points. Madonna's Ross Comis was a part of all six of Madonna's touchdowns with five rushing and one passing.
The first half was dominated by defense as the halftime score was only 14-12 in favor of Madonna. The tide would turn in the second half, however, with the offenses lighting up the scoreboard.
Roush had all three of his touchdowns in the second half. Both teams did a great job of holding onto the ball as there was only one turnover by Wahama off of a trick play gone wrong. Luckily for the White Falcons, that didn't hurt them in the end.
Madonna's Comis ended the night with 127 yards passing and 144 yards on the ground. For Wahama, Roush ran for 168 yards and 80 receiving yards while Wamsley added 112 yards including his three rushing touchdowns. Trenton Gibbs had 80 yards passing and 54 yards rushing including the game-winning conversion play that occurred after an encroachment call on Madonna.
The White Falcons finished the season a perfect 14-0 and with a state championship. Kane Roush was named Player of the Game and the team was nothing but happy for this great accomplishment.
