Lancaster To Receive Clean Ohio Money

Lancaster is one of four Ohio communities slated to receive more than $1.4 million in Clean Ohio Assistance Fund grants from the State Controlling Board for brownfield redevelopment. Lancaster will receive $110,684 for the second stage of an environment assessment of the former Starfire Express property.
According a news release from the Ohio Department of Development, the city wants to use the property for growing the Fairfield Medical Center campus. Brownfield redevelopment aims to clean up land once used for commercial purposes with potentially hazardous or toxic chemicals. The old Starfire Express is located on North Ewing Street and accounts for about three-quarters of an acre in east downtown Lancaster. The grant money will be used for 14 soil borings, five shallow monitoring wells, and one deep monitoring well as well as geological surveys and reports.
The other three communities are Barberton, Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. More details about the funds for those areas can be found in the press release attached below.
