Lady Vikings Flex Muscles In Win Over N-Y
< < Back to lady-vikings-flex-muscles-win-over-n-yThe Vinton County Lady Vikings picked up an easy victory at home on Thursday night in a conference matchup against the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes, winning 57-35.
Following a close opening quarter, the Lady Vikings took control of the game in the second, scoring 18 points. Vinton County would continue their dominance on the defensive side of the ball, as the Lady Buckeyes to score just four points in that same period.
Caitlyn Owings protected the paint and proved to be a problem for N-Y forwards Madison Davis and Shelby True. Davis was able to accumulate 10 points on the night despite struggling from the free-throw line, while Owings racked up 14 points.
A halftime adjustment by N-Y head coach Amanda Dalton helped narrow the gap by restoring confidence in her team’s offenseThe Lady Bucks looked to Brooke Breeze to connect on several mid-range jumpers to bring the team within reach.
The Lady Buckeyes’ attempt at a comeback fell short, as the Lady Vikings would dominate the final eight minutes to improve to 7-7 (4-1 TVC-Ohio). With the loss, the Lady Buckeyes fall to 8-3 (3-2 TVC-Ohio).
Nelsonville-York will look to bounce back from this loss on Monday, Jan. 14 at Wellston. On the same night, Vinton County will look for their third straight win in a matchup at Alexander.
