Eight counties in Southeast Ohio were under a level-one snow emergency Sunday morning after snow fell throughout Saturday and into Superbowl Sunday.

As of Sunday morning the following counties were under a level-one:

  • Athens
  • Fairfield
  • Hocking
  • Licking
  • Muskingum
  • Pike
  • Ross
  • Vinton

Vinton County had been under the more severe level-two emergency Saturday night but lowered the level Sunday morning.

Kathleen Fuller of the Ohio Department of Transportation said routes on the state highway system were clear Sunday morning but traces of ice were present in spot as a result of freezebacks.

While the roads were treated, a few crews remained on duty to patrol as needed.

Fuller said S.R. 239 and S.R. 73/104 in Scioto County were still closed Sunday morning because of flooding.

S.R. 239 was closed at the U.S. 52 underpass at West Portsmouth, and S.R. 73/104 was closed at the on and off-ramps to and from U.S. 52 and S.R. 852.

The Second Street bridge at Portsmouth was also closed.

Motorists were being detoured via U.S. Route 52.
