In Monday night’s Division IV sectional semifinal battle between the No. 7 Symmes Valley Vikings and the No. 10 Trimble Tomcats, the Vikings came out on top 39-38.

This game was tough throughout as Trimble led after the first 13-8 but let the Vikings get back in the game as they outscored the Tomcats 15-2 in the second quarter.

This allowed Symmes Valley to control the flow of the game and forced Trimble to play by their terms until late in the fourth. Symmes got seven more shots up that helped them score the extra point.

Symmes Valley took this home off of good defense and even better rebounding. They finished the night with 14 steals and 33 rebounds, including 15 offensive rebounds.

The Tomcats had a chance at the end with seven seconds left as the Vikings missed a free throw but couldn’t get a shot up before time expired and lossed because of it. They also pulled this game in after being down by seven late in the fourth. They switched to a full-court press that created five quick points.

The loss brings Trimble’s season to a final record of 7-16.

This win advances Symmes Valley into the sectional semifinals where they will take on the Waterford Wildcats Saturday afternoon.
