Watergate Reporter To Deliver Marietta Commencement Address
< < Back to watergate-reporter-deliver-marietta-commencement-addressOne half of the journalism team that uncovered the Watergate scandal which forced the resignation of President Richard Nixon will deliver the 2013 commencement address at Marietta College.
Award-winning investigative reporter and author Carl Bernstein will be the college's keynote speaker at the May 12 ceremony.
“As an investigative reporter in the Watergate era, Carl Bernstein brought about a radical reconsideration of the expectations our citizens have for our elected officials,” said Marietta College President Joseph Bruno. “He has continued to be a voice for fairness and strong leadership, and his subsequent books on Pope John Paul II and Hillary Clinton, among others, continue his thoughtful examinations of that theme. We are fortunate to have him as a speaker during this, our year dedicated to the study of leadership.”
Bernstein, along with colleague Bob Woodward, broke the Watergate story while working at The Washington Post in the early 1970s.
The pair received a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 1973.
Bernstein is now writing a memoir and developing a tv series for Turner Broadcasting.
