Annual Hocking River Clean-up scheduled for June 15, 2019

June 15, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

Free

LOGAN, OHIO – Friends of the Hocking River (FOHR), now celebrating its 20th year as a conservation group, is calling for volunteers to help with the “39rd  Annual Hocking River Clean-up”  from Sugar Grove to Logan. This is an in-stream cleanup and involves removing trash, tires, and a variety of debris from the Hocking River and its banks.  The Hocking Valley Canoe Livery is providing volunteers with canoes, paddles, PFDs who will be asked to work in teams combing designated stretches along the river.  FOHR is supplying garbage bags and gloves.  There is a lunch cookout for all volunteers beginning at noon.  This is one of many river cleanups that are scheduled for Saturday June 15th as part of the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) “Ohio River Sweep 2019.”   Volunteers receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last).

Registration is from 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at the Hocking Valley Canoe Livery, 32151 Chieftain Drive, Logan. The annual river clean-up is sponsored by Friends of the Hocking River, the Hocking Valley Canoe Livery, and ORSANCO.  Additional support comes from the Hocking County Health Department, the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste Management Authority, and the Ohio EPA.  For more information, call 1-800-686-0386 or email mhammar@roadrunner.com  .  Hazardous water conditions and high river levels may force postponement, so please check with the River Sweep coordinator or Hocking Valley Canoe Livery for any possible cancellations.  The alternate date is Saturday June 22.
