FreeMarietta College’s Art Department will have an artist reception for two currently-running exhibitions on Sept. 20 from 5-7 pm on the third floor of Hermann Fine Arts Center. “Control Series: Discipline and Domination, A Photography and Video Exhibition by Erin Zerbe” in Gallery 310 through Sept. 26. Images in the exhibition represent the effects of various control garments on a woman’s body. Erin Zerbe is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Marietta, Ohio. She earned her BFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University, received her MFA and Certificate of Post-Secondary Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and is the latest faculty member to join the Art Department as an Associate Professor of Art at Marietta College. Gallery 310 is open noon-4 pm, Monday through Thursday, or by appointment at gallery310@marietta.edu.
“Inventions for the New Season” features the art of Joe Ryckebosch in the Atrium Gallery through Sept. 26. The work in this exhibition is comprised largely of found images — old prints, magazine scraps, faded nature photographs, old lithographs, wildlife photos, and discarded oil paintings, etc. — remixed and re-envisioned. Joe enjoys the contrast of the often faded worn images against bright, eye-popping tape. The juxtaposition of geometric patterns created with the tape meld the natural scenery to create an otherworldly landscape. The Atrium Gallery is open 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
