History on Trial: The Fugitive Slave Case of George Henderson v. David Putnam, Jr.

Abolitionist David Putnam, Jr. of Marietta stood accused of
violating the Fugitive Slave Act by aiding in the escape of ten slaves
from the plantation of George W. Henderson of Williamstown,
(West) Virginia in 1849. Join us President’s Day for The Castle’s
new series “History on Trial” in Court Room A, 3rd Floor, at the
Washington County Court House to witness the proceedings as
tried by modern day lawyers of Washington County. The outcome of
the trial will be dependent on you! A panel discussion will follow.
