Description:
This recital aims to promote, inspire, and educate the public to the contributions made by African-Americans to the field of classical music, specifically art song. This includes composers and poets. Furthermore, we seek to show the influence of these artists on other composers in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Please join Ohio University School of Music faculty; Kyle Berkley and Wendy Blackwood for a recital, “Through the Eyes of Time: A Recital to Celebrate Black History Month.” They will present classical music, art songs and spirituals by African-American composers. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of a brand-new art song cycle by renowned American composer – Gwyneth Walker. This premiere work , ”I’ve Known Rivers,” made in part with the collaboration of Ohio University Voice Faculty, Kyle Berkley.
Come and celebrate the excellence of African-American classical music and spirituals!
