Ohio's governor wants President Barack Obama to include support for a uranium enrichment project in southern Ohio in his plan to create U.S. jobs.
Gov. John Kasich sent a letter to the president this week. The Republican governor says he has toured the Piketon area project and that it's important to national energy security and
could mean up to 8,000 jobs across the country. Nearly half would be in Ohio.
The American Centrifuge Plant project needs a $2 billion federal loan guarantee for financing, to move ahead with construction. The plant would produce enriched uranium for nuclear power plants.
Kasich urges the president to "cut through bureaucratic red tape" and immediately approve the project by Bethesda, Md.-based USEC Inc.
