The soon-to-be Superintendent of the Alexander Local School District says he wants to keep the district on its current course, balancing academic excellence and financial issues.

The school board appointed Jeff Cullum to the post last night.

He's the current Alexander Elementary School principal and has been with the district since 2004.

"The district is in great shape," says Cullum.

Current Superintendent Robert Bray has been on the job for 16 years and Cullum says, "He's done a great job."

Cullum says details of his contract haven't been ironed out yet.

The school board plans to take up that issue at the next meeting.

Bray is retiring December 31.

He says Cullum is a good choice for the job.

"He's a very good man and I wish him the best," says Bray.
