Issue 2 Fall-Out Continues

Democrats in the Ohio Senate are proposing a constitutional amendment that would put a two-year ban on re-enacting laws that have been rejected by a referendum of voters.
Democrats announced the legislation Thursday, two days after Ohio voters repealed a Republican-backed law that would have placed new restrictions on collective bargaining by public employee unions.
Among other provisions, the law also would prohibit the legislature for two years from overturning laws enacted through citizen initiative. Terms of the amendment could be overridden by a two-thirds vote in the House and Senate.
Voters on Tuesday overturned the union law by a vote of more than 61 percent, one of the biggest wins for the labor movement in decades.
Republican Gov. John Kasich had campaigned in support of the law.
