State officials say hunters killed more than 19,000 deer during Ohio's four-day muzzleloader season, which ended Tuesday.

The tally was 19,251, up from the previous year. The preliminary total showed fewer than 17,000 deer were taken during muzzleloader season in 2011.

This year, Coshocton County again led the way with 722 deer checked. The next-highest numbers were reported by Licking, Muskingum and Guernsey counties, which each had more than 600 deer checked.

Archery season continues through February 5.
