Newest OU Board Of Trustees Member Named
< < Back to newest-ohio-board-trustee-namedOhio Governor, John Kasich (R), appointed David R. Scholl, a 35-year resident of Athens, to the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Scholl’s nine-year term will start at the beginning of this month and will cease in May 2021.
"We are very pleased to welcome David Scholl to our Board of Trustees," said Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis.
Scholl has had an extensive career in the medical business. During his tenure at Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc., Scholl managed to help the biotechnology diagnostic firm establish with the Ohio University Alumni in 1983. While at DHI, Scholl was helpful in the company’s research and development. In addition, Scholl helped bring in numerous commercial products in the medical industry. Also, as the company chief executive officer in 1997, Scholl helped build a strong relationship with company stockholders and raised $12.5 million in equity growth capital from Summit Partner to help expand the company.
Scholl furthered his career starting as a partner with Athenian Venture Partners, where he joined in 1997 as the firm’s scientific consultant. Scholl has worked in a wide variety of healthcare investments opportunities including gene delivery technology, genomics, biopharmaceuticals, and cancer therapeutics.
In 2010, Scholl was serving as the DHI senior vice-president when Quidel Corporation, a leader in the development and distribution of cellular and molecular diagnostic kits, purchased DHI for $130 million. Scholl retired after both companies became one in 2011.
Along with his time at DHI, Scholl has accumulated more than 28 years of healthcare experience in the areas of research and development, operating management, and venture capital.
President McDavis went on to say that that Scholl’s leadership would be beneficial to the board at Ohio University. As group they will focus on the betterment of student experience.
After being appointed to the new position Scholl said, "I am genuinely honored and humbled to be considered for this Trustee position." Scholl also mentioned that Ohio University has had a major influence on not only his professional career and his family, but on his life as well.
Scholl has been on multiple boards including the state boards called, the Ohio Third Frontier Commissions and BioOhio. He is also a recipient of the Central Ohio Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for Life Sciences. Scholl also serves as a trustee on the Ohio University Foundation Board.
