A memorial honoring a Parkersburg native who was killed in Afghanistan has been installed at City Park.

Media outlets report that the monument honoring Navy Chief Petty Officer Nicholas H. Null was unveiled and dedicated Saturday.

Null was among 30 U.S. servicemen who were killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan in 2011.

About 300 family, friends, active military members and veterans attended the dedication ceremony.

Null's mother, Tracy Kendall, says a foundation created in his name will continue raising funds to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
