Rio Grande will host Mid-South foe Lindsey Wilson this weekend in their final home conference series of the season.

The RedStorm (18-25, 4-17 Mid-South Conference) are currently 2.5 games back of the conference’s eighth position, and only the top eight teams in the 10 team MSC receive a bid in the conference tournament. With only six conference games remaining, Rio needs to have a good weekend against the fourth-placed Blue Raiders (25-22, 11-9 MSC) to stay in the hunt for a tournament spot.

Rio Grande enters play riding the momentum of a 2-0 victory on Wednesday over Ohio. Anthony Knittel threw 8 1/3 innings of two-hit baseball to lead the NAIA RedStorm over the NCAA Division I Bobcats.

Lindsey Wilson is led at the plate by Mitchell Osnowitz. The senior third baseman leads the MSC with 12 home runs and boasts a .359 batting average.

Mike Deitcsh (2-5) has the task of slowing down Osnowitz and the Blue Raiders in Friday’s contest. David Steele gets the ball in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. Steele, a senior, leads Rio pitchers in strikeouts (65) and has the best ERA of all RedStorm starters (2.60).

Friday’s game begins at 2 p.m. First pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for noon. This weekend’s series will be played at Rio Grande’s Bob Evans Field.
