Ohio University’s World Music and Dance Festival–including the Global Excursions Concert, titled “Celebrating Diversity at OHIO”–will be staged during the last week of March, culminating in the concert on April 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

In its sixth iteration, this festival and concert will open the door to complete passion and the dynamism of global music and dance forms.

Global arts, especially music and dance experiences, have become an integral part of university level education. These experiences introduce different ways of conceptualizing the arts and open up new avenues of creativity, expression, and aesthetic appreciation for students.

This celebration has become part of the university’s annual calendar of events, offering the community–both university and Athens–opportunities to learn from and experience performances by renowned international artists.

For this sixth festival, co-directors Dr. Paschal Yao Younge, professor of music, and Dr. Zelma Badu-Younge, professor of dance, join with a highly celebrated list of guest artists, including: Abbos Kosimov; BaKari Ifasegun Lindsay (co-founder and director of COBA Collective of Black Artists); Caroline Yeme (principal dancer with the National Dance Company of Ghana); Eric Paton (director of Hiuchi Taiko and Timbalero with Yumbambé Salsa Jazz); Kristofer Olsen (founder and director of PanTana Steel Orchestra); Keith Moone (steel band artist and builder/tuner at Mannette Musical Instruments); and Chanler Bailey (director of CB Studios and builder/tuner at Mannette Musical Instruments).

In addition, the festival will feature the Kashtan Ukranian Dance Ensemble, Azaguno, New Chords on the Block,  OU Percussion Club and the Ohio University World Music and Dance Ensembles.

This event is made possible through the support of the College of Fine Arts, Arts for Ohio, Multicultural Programs, the OU Performing Arts Series, the Campus Involvement Center, the School of Music, the Dance Division, the Black Student Cultural Programming Board, the University College Dean & Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, the Center for International Studies & Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Azaguno, Inc.
