Responsibilities of the Council
The
Advisory Council, in consultation with the Director and staff, will assist in
ascertaining community needs and shall:
a.provide suggestions for local productions, selection
of programming, and
other Center services;
b. examine past programming and services on an annual
basis to provide continuing
evaluation;
c. examine Center priorities for program service, public relations/awareness,
development, outreach, technologies, and student professional
development;
d. serve as liaison between the Center and various
community groups;
e. assist with the Center's public relations/awareness
efforts;
f. advise on questions of
broadcast policy;
g. advise the Center on the development of broadcast
services and the
appropriate
avenues for financing those services; and
h. collectively represent the Center before units of
government at all levels,
national
organizations where appropriate, and Ohio University.
Meetings
The
Council will meet three times each year, in February, May and October, to deal
with broad issues related to the WOUB Center for Public Media. The meetings are
open to the general public. Public notice of each meeting will be provided
through announcements broadcast on the radio and television stations, through
the monthly program guide, notices to the media, and notices posted at the WOUB
Center for Public Media.
Operation
The
Council will be chaired by a member appointed to that role. A vice chair and
secretary will also be appointed. Ad hoc sub-committees may be developed as
needed. A quorum must be present to conduct business.
The
Council shall meet at least three times a year. All members shall be notified
of meetings, preferably in writing.
The
Director shall be a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Council.
Minutes
shall be corrected and approved at the next Council meeting.
Membership
Members
appointed to the Advisory Council shall service without compensation, but may
be reimbursed for actual expenses related to the performance of their duties.
Members
will be appointed for three-year terms with one-third of the membership
appointed each year. Members shall be eligible for reappointment for a second
three-year term. After serving two consecutive terms, members shall be eligible
for reappointment after having been off the Council for one year.
Initially,
members will be appointed for two-, three-, or four-year terms. Subsequent
terms will be for three years.
Any
appointed members missing three consecutive regular meetings may be requested
to resign the Council seat.
Any
individual appointed to complete a term of less than 18 months as a result of
being appointed to a term of a resigned member is eligible for reappointment
for a regular three-year term without having to be off the Council for a year.
