New Lexington beats Crooksville, secures MVL-Small title

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – New Lexington and Crooksville faced off in an MVL-Small conference matchup. New Lexington looked dominant to start this game, and never looked back as it found its way to a 45-6 victory. 

To get this game started, New Lexington was able to drive down the field and score on its opening offensive possession.  It was Paul Stenson who was able to run into the end zone from a few yards, and then Terrelle King ran in for a 2-point conversion to make it 8-0 Panthers. 

New Lexington got the ball again soon after that, and finished its second offensive drive with a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Paul Stenson to help give the Panthers an early 15-0 lead. 

The Ceramics got the ball at their own 1-yard line after forcing a turnover on downs, but the Panthers then ended up bringing them down for a safety to put them up 17-0.  To end the first quarter, Tyson Spicer would break free and take it to the house for a 51-yard rushing touchdown to give the Panthers a big 24-0 lead.  

The Panthers then scored another touchdown as Tyson Spicer had a 70-yard punt return touchdown for his second touchdown of the game.  The Ceramics were then able to catch a break defensively as the Panthers lost the football, and Jackson Love was able to dive and pick up the ball for Crooksville.   

Before halftime, New Lexington found another way to score again as Paul Stenson had a 39-yard rush touchdown for his third touchdown of the night to put the Panthers up 37-0.   

In the third quarter, the game was on a running clock and both teams played some good defense to where there was no scoring in the third quarter.   Crooksville finally got something going offensively in the fourth quarter as QB Brady Cottrell threw a touchdown pass to Eli Sprankle to finally give Ceramics points in this game. 

New Lexington scored once again as freshman Cohen Martin had a 38-yard rushing touchdown for his first career varsity touchdown.  The Panthers would go for a 2-point conversion and Cohen Martin would also run it into the end zone. New Lexington would go on to beat Crooksville by a final score of 45-6.

This win for the Panthers would clinch them the MVL small conference title and they would stay undefeated by improving to a record of 9-0.  Crooksville fought hard on their senior night but ended up suffering a tough loss.
