Volleyball’s Karst Assists the Bobcats to Victory
< < Back to volleyballs-karst-assists-bobcats-victoryDigs, kills and assists were in abundance as the Ohio University Bobcats defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd in straight sets, 3-0, at the Baymont Invitational this afternoon at the Convocation Center.
Freshman setter Bailey Karst showed her new Bobcat fans what they have to look forward to the next four years. Karst led the team by providing 28 of the teams 31 total assists as well as having a great day serving the ball.
“Bailey was distributing the ball well,” head coach Ryan Theis said. “It was her best serving that she had done all year.”
Karst credited her success to good passing, which made things easier to set up the hitters for their kills.
The Bobcats won the first set 27-25, the second set 25-17, and dominated the third set 25-15 to win the match. Marshall gave Ohio a bit of a challenge in the second set, but the Bobcat’s big hitters were able to convert their kills-per-attempt at an astonishing rate of 64.7%.
“I wish I could say that we’re in mid-season form, but we’re not there yet,” Theis said. “Our blockers were frustrated and that’s because Marshall was challenging us a lot.”
“We were panicking last night (against Louisville) and a lot of that had to do with first home game nerves,” Karst said.
“We want to pull away from teams,” Theis said. “We were able to do that today and we were able to increase the gap.”
The Bobcats look to continue to dominate tomorrow when they play their final match of the tournament against the University of Virginia.
