Volleyball: Ohio extends streaks at Akron
< < Back to volleyball-ohio-extends-streaks-akronIn her past, Ohio freshman outside hitter, Kelly Lamberti, has been named the 2010 Illinois Player of the Year for Gatorade, an Under Armor All-American Player to Watch in 2010 and Player of the Year in multiple newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune. Her legacy did not end in high school as she remains a lead player for the Bobcats.
In tonight’s game against Akron, Lamberti gave Ohio 17 kills, compared to Akron’s hitter, Courtney Jarvis, with 13 kills. The Cats swept the Zips with a match score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20).
Going into the game, the Cats led with the average hitting percentage of .270, while Akron held a .116. The highest hitting percentages from Ohio include senior Katie Post with .277 and sophomore Lexie Harnett with a .223. Lamberti holds a .149 for now.
This season Lamberti has made 176 kills, taking the lead for number of kills on the team for this 2011 season. Another freshman, Chelsea Bilger, comes in second with 168 kills.
Ohio won in 3 straight sets tonight, similar to the game last week against Eastern Michigan. In the MAC, Akron is now 0-5 and is at an 11 game losing streak.
In the game, two teams averaged and tied with a 2-2 block, 2-2 aces stat and an extremely close 45-46 dig lead by Akron. Despite Akron’s low statistics, the match tonight proved to be close.
The 'Cats have won seven straight and this win puts them at 5-0 in the MAC. Lamberti, as a freshman, remains to be a key player for the Ohio’s wins.
