< < Back to hocking-county-sheriffs-office-accepts-prescription-drug-drop-offs-year-roundIn an effort to keep extra opiates from from potential street abuse, people can now drop-off their unused or expired prescriptions year-round at the Hocking County Sheriff's Office. Previous drop-offs occurred every six months.
This year, the Sheriff's Office collected 23 pounds of extra medications in spring 2011, and another 26.5 pounds in October.
People can drop off their unwanted or expired medication anytime at the Sheriff's Office at 25 East Second Street in Logan. The pills will then be turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to be properly disposed of.
The decision to allow drop-offs all year round was made after a recent meeting of the recently formed Hocking County Opiate Task Force. The Sheriff's Office participates in the task force. In a press release, the Sheriff's Office encouraged the community to get involved to combat prescription drug abuse in Hocking County.
