Circleville Child Victim Of Identity Theft
< < Back to circleville-child-victim-identity-theftA central Ohio mother says an identity thief used her son's social security number to secure a mortgage.
Gretchen Reis says that she and her husband signed up for an identity theft monitoring company called AllClear ID after an issue with compromising data.
Reis soon discovered that someone had used her 11-year-old son's credit to get a $69,000 mortgage from a bank in Philadelphia.
Reis says the company found out the mortgage was taken out several years before her son was even born. She says apparently someone picked his social security number at random and applied for the mortgage.
Jamie May of AllClear ID says crimes like that can go undiscovered for years as many children don't use their credit until age 19.
