Boys Basketball: Fed Hock goes cold, can’t top Wildcats
< < Back to boys-basketball-fed-hock-goes-cold-cant-top-wildcatsThe Federal Hocking Lancers came into Wildcat territory Tuesday night hoping to pick up their fifth league win, instead they had one of their worst shooting performances of the season on their way to a 54-47 loss to the Waterford Wildcats. The Lancers started off the game hot but cooled off in a hurry against the extended pressure that the Wildcats brought. The Lancers consistently got open look after open look only to see 18-60 field goals drop along with 4-20 from behind the arc.
Despite the poor shooting effort the Lancers regularly got open looks from mid-range but just couldn’t finish. The game was tight throughout the first quarter with the Lancers leading most of the way, but with the Lancers coming out cold in the second quarter their early lead was converted into a 14 point halftime deficit at 32-18.
From there it was all catch up for the Lancers who actually got the lead down to six but had dug themselves into a hole too big to get out of. The Lancers finished the game with 16 turnovers, a very impressive stat considering the extended pressure that Waterford was bringing throughout the game.
Tate Lang tied the Wildcats team high with 13 points with two of those points being on a thunderous fast break slam, Braden Burer chipped in 13 points as well for the Wildcats. Fed Hock was led by big man Max Carney who scored 12 points including some 16 footers that showed the big mans range, Corey Rex chipped in 10 points with a variety of jumpers. In the end the Lancer’s shooting was too poor to pick up the victory.
The Lancers drop to 5-5 (4-3) on the season and must put this loss behind them in a hurry as they will host 6-2 (5-1) South Gallia. Meanwhile the Wildcats improve to 3-5 (2-4) and travel to Eastern.
