10th Annual Good Works Walk For The Homeless This Weekend
< < Back toThis year's Good Works Walk for the Homeless is not only significant because it's the 10th year for the event, it's also important because this year the need is significant.
Good Works Incorporated's Timothy House is the only shelter in nine counties to offer help to the homeless in our region.
The christian charitable organization brings shelter to between 150 and 225 people each year.
"The purpose of the timothy house is to provide a safe, clean, temporary, stable place to stay while people identify the issues that have brought them into homelessness and then empowering those people to begin to address them, surrounded by a loving community, says Executive Director Keith Wasserman.
But with homelessness on the rise, Wasserman says the group has had to turn away more and more people in need of assistance.
The 10th Annual Walk for the Homeless will be held this Saturday.
Wasserman hopes it will raise awareness about the homeless problem in the area.
"All of these walks are intended to open people's understanding to the difficulties of poverty, the difficulties that people who are without homes face," says Wasserman.
Those interested in participating should meet at the Athens First United Methodist Church at 8:30 am on Saturday.
