Wrestling: Ohio Takes Two of Three on Weekend Trip

The Bobcats (5-7) opened with a 35-9 victory over the Blue Devils to get things started Friday night.
Ohio won the first five matches of the meet, highlighted by major decisions from Miles Chapman and Nick Purdue. Sophomore Ryan Garringer followed with a pin in the 183 lb. weight class that put Ohio up 14-0 as a team.
Heavyweight Jeremy Johnson and Harrison Hightower each recorded pins against the Blue Devils.
Against NC State, the Bobcats tasted a little of their own medicine as the Wolfpack jumped on top by winning six of the first seven matches. Drew Hammer took the decision in the 133 lb. weight class, but the Wolfpack led 24-3 as a team.
Garringer and Johnson continued their impressive nights, each grabbing a second pin as Ohio made it respectable taking two of the last three matchups.
On Saturday night, the Bobcats traveled to Gardner-Webb and took the team victory by a score of 28-18.
Ohio fell behind 9-0 after the first two matchups, but Senior Darrin Boing and Freshman Andrew Romanchik each recorded pins to put Ohio up 12-9.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs took the next two matches, before Purdue won by a major decision to put his team up for good. Garringer and Johnson again recorded pins to complete their individual weekend sweeps. Johnson finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record in dual competition.
The Bobcats next hit the mats on March 4 for the MAC Championships, which takes place in Athens.
