Athens Planning Commission Mulls Far East Side Re-Zoning

Athens City officials are considering a zoning change on the east end of town.
Mayor Paul Wiehl says the "request" was talked about at City Hall Wednesday.
"The Planning Commission met today and they discussed the rezoning of the far east side, north of East State Street. There's anticipation we will have a public hearing set for the Planning Commission sometime in May," said Wiehl.
Wiehl says the discussion lasted so long that another item on the agenda was tabled.
That's the B-3 Zone ground floor interpretation, which generated controversy during the recent sale of the Bella Vino building.
The issue will have to wait for another Athens City Planning Commission meeting.
